It's Christmas Time in the City...and Everywhere Else

Christmas is a joyous time, a time to spend with family, rejuvenate...and stress to the max.

But it is a season of conflictions...

Summer diet to look your best at the beach V work Christmas parties, drinks with friends to see in the season, three helpings of Christmas lunch, and late night snacks as you revel in not having to get up for work at 5am. Which of those sounds like more fun?

Being grateful for what you have and what you receive V maxing out the credit card to buy the BEST gift EVER for Aunty Annie, so you're the favourite nephew. Since when did buying a gift become about ensuring what you purchased was exactly what the recipient wants or needs at that very moment. What about it's the thought that counts, searching in 20 boutique shops for that little (yes LITTLE) something that you think is just perfect for your best friend, niece, sister, son - rather than bombarding the department stores for a piece of Made in (somewhere foreign and cheap) junk that is likely to be discarded for being the wrong colour, not expensive enough or just nothing worth treasuring. On my wish list this year, is something to treasure.

Relaxing and enjoying your festive season V stressing out that everything has to be completely perfect for just one day. And that's the crux of it isn't it? So much goes into one day, just one day. A bloody good day, but still just one day.

This year, I want to enjoy that day, more than stress about it. Yes I have done a lot of planning and am organised which will make it easier, but if lunch isn't served at 12pm on the dot, oh well, the world won't end, and we won't starve. If the pork doesn't crackle, yes that WILL suck, but the pork will still taste amazing. If I forgot a condiment, oh well, I am sure there is something that will suffice. And you know if I want THREE helpings of lunch, I will.... and I WILL look my best at the beach on Boxing Day too, because I'll be stress free and happy.

Merry Christmas :)

And So it Begins…

Today is the day Mumma Daze begins. Well not truly, as the daze of motherhood for me began on the 8 th January 2010. But this is where I will begin to share with other Mums or anyone who is interested in reading, my ups, downs, sideways and diagonal traipses through what is the daze of being a Mumma. In this blog you will see.. · random thoughts that may or may not relate to children · the rants and vents of a mother at the end of her tether · reviews of ‘products’ that I love or hate…and if I hate them you’ll know it · my hints and tips on saving money in your grocery (and other) shopping…because as you’ll come to learn.. I love a bargain · recipes that I’ve tried, tested, probably failed, then tried again and again · you will also hopefully, quite plainly, see the adoring love I have of being a working housewife and a mother to one precious little boy so, enjoy, relax, provide feedback, stay a quiet follower, join in… I’ll be here J

Another Shopping / Pantry Tip

Whilst the shopping to a list and meal plan is the best way to save yourself money / time there is also another nifty tip that for me works well and go hand in hand with this process. I have certain grocery items that are just in the pantry - as I am sure we all do - sauce, dressing, mayo, plain crackers, pappadums, curry powder etc Rather than try and remember what you need each week / fortnight - attach a piece of paper to your fridge or your cupboard and when you run out of something whilst cooking write it down. Make the list a permanent fixture in your kitchen so this tiny tiny task also becomes a fixture.. you'll no longer have 3 bottles of tomato sauce and no BBQ. French dressing but not italian, curry powder but not mustard powder and all types of pasta instead of 5 packets of fettucine!!!

Welcome to Year 1.

A whirlwind is the only way to explain the first three weeks of school. Who can ever believe their baby has grown another year older and is now playing in the "big kids" playground or doesn't necessarily need to be walked to and from the classroom? In the past three weeks I have learnt a lot about me as a Mum too! I have learnt that homework is another layer in our already very busy lives that needs to be managed, or it just won't get done due to time constraints, and that it will cause me more stress than it will Cas, or his teacher, if it doesn't get done. I have also learnt that as Cas grows I am struggling to keep up with a varied and reasonably healthy lunchbox. From this I have learnt that you can cook fish fingers and then fridge them for lunch the next day! Read half of a blog post last night about all the kinds of Mums at the school gate. Why there is a need to label everyone I don't know. I just know that I have also learnt that real friends ca...
